my partner has a sole trader business that she set up a couple of months ago and she now wants to start operating as a sole trader in another feild. Her sole trader business has a registered business name and is in the feild of therapy, she now wants to trade in the feild of podiatry as a seperate business. My question is, can she operate the podiatry business under her legal name using the same abn as both businesses are sole trader entities? or does she now have to register another business name with asic?

And just to add more - a business name is purely an advertising medium, it is not needed for tax purposes. You only get a business name so customers remember the catchy name.
