Hi there,

In the 2022-2023 financial year I received a tax debt of $4317.55 and set up a payment plan to pay it off. The "plan total" as per my income tax 551 said the total amount including GIC is $4317.55.... today marks my second last instalment and my final instalment would be the remaining $17.55 due to be taken from my account on 15/5/2024, and I have never had a late payment. I've logged into my account to pay off the last $17.55 but it said I couldn't unless I cancelled my payment plan, so I cancelled my payment plan and my account keeps saying "account overdue $166... so I paid $166 thinking I might have owed that since I can't see a running total of what I owe and then my account continues to say "account overdue $166" so I pay $495.27 (3 lots of $166 with the credit card surcharge) and my account continues to still say it is overdue $166. When I open my income tax 551 statement it says my "running balance" is $165.43.... but I have overpaid $495.27 since my tax debt including GIC is $4317.55. Where has my overpaid $495.27 gone? Why does it continue to say I owe $166 even when I continue to pay the amount? Why can't I get in contact with someone to sort this out? Please let me speak to a real person at the ATO
