Does ATO system allow for creation of a TFN for people who are only known by their appellation within their community such as 'John' or 'Jesus' or 'Peter' and do not have any other names, titles, or Surnames recorded on their Birth Record?

If yes, please provide reference to where in Legislation it explains how to apply for a TFN and who's responsibility it is to do so with a sample completed form.

Hi @illegal-alien,

When applying for a TFN, it needs to be in your legal name. This means it needs to be in whichever name is on your birth certificate and other legal documents.

If your legal name is only one name [e.g. no surname], you'd need to apply using a paper form.

If the name on your application doesn't match your legal documents, you won't be able to get a TFN.
