This is almost exactly the same to the post made by @Emmab1987 back in March of 2023 linked here: https://community.ato.gov.au/s/question/a0J9s000000RApZEAW/p00222834, except that when I tried the solution that was posted, saying I should order the change of registration details paper form, fill it out and mail it (with meeting minutes and our constitution attached), which I have done, I got a callback from the ATO saying that they are not able to update our details as I am not an authorised person listed on the ATO for our association. Therefore, it makes this a circular argument. Maybe there is something I am not understanding or I am filling out the form wrongly - please enlighten me as I need some guidance on how to go about this!
Here's the full story just for completeness:
I recently became President of our Incorporated Association. I realised that our ABN has not been updated since 2002, as it stills says that we are an Unincorporated Association eventhough I saw from our old records that we have an Incorporation Certificate in 2006.
It seems that the previous authorised person has not updated our ABN since 2002. Referring to our old paper records, I managed to get in contact with the office bearers during this time, 1999 to 2002 and they told me that they do not recall ever being an authorised person in the ATO for our association. With this, I am unable to determine who the authorised person is who is currently listed on the ABN - I have called the ATO hotline and they are not at liberty to tell me which is understandable. I also cannot gain access and link my business on the ATO through RAM since I am not listed as an authorised person for the business. How am I meant to update our ABN?? I even called the ATO hotline asking if they could link the business for me and they told me to look up old records - which I have now done and it's been so long that I have no chance of ever finding out who this authorised person is.
Note that I am listed as President and also as Public Officer on the CBS.
Does anyone have any insight or suggestions to help with this?
Thank you and I look forward to hearing your solutions!
