Hi community, I will be away from Australia from July 2024 for 4-6 months. If I don't have private health insurance (PHI) for the time I am away, will I still be charged medical levy surcharge for those months?

AS taken from ATO website

"The Medicare levy surcharge applies to Australian residents who have income above the surcharge thresholds and don't have an appropriate level of private patient hospital cover."

If you are overseas for 4-6 months then you will likely still be regarded as an Australian resident.
