Hi, I am currently on a Temporary Visa and planning to get married this September with my partner who holds a Permanent Residence. We haven’t and are not planning to register our marriage until the wedding day (which is on September). However, we want to prepare and buy a house for us to live in together after we got married. If we got a house before September, and we both are putting our names in the property, can I still get exemption from foreign tax duty even I have not legally married yet? Or do I need to get legally married first before getting the exemption.

Hi @jmine,

We need some more info to understand your situation.

Do you mean the foreign investment duty surcharge? If it is then it's something that you'll need to ask your local state revenue office about.
