Hi there,

I currently work full time hours in a PAYG job paying under my TFN (~$100,000).

On top of this job I complete uberEats and some consultancy work which pays to my ABN sole trader. This is less than $18000 per annum.

My question is

a) Do i need to pay higher tax on the ABN based income as my TOTAL combined income overall is over 115000 (TFN and ABN combined)? *and as second incomes are taxed at a higher rate*

b) The expenses/deductions I have had to pay for (e.g. car logbooks etc) are they claimable? as the business earnings were under 18k might be logged as a "loss", but tax was paid under the other income?

From July 1 2024 any income earned above $100,000 and below $135,000 will be taxed at 30 per cent plus 2 per cent Medicare levy.

For expenses to be deductible they need to be a cost directly related to earning that income.

This link is to business tax deductions.

Hi TaxDuck,

I have seen this link and information, but my question is since i have paid tax on the main job, and the second job is paying without withholding any tax, Will I even have to pay the tax on that second income?

like for example if I have $1000 in deductions, but no tax paid in job 2, can i claim it as only a loss? or take it off the tax paid in job 1?

Thanks for your help
