I work in an office and my chair is inadequate. Can I buy a better chair and claim it as a tax deduction?
I would say not. This link explains the deductibility of office furniture.
Reading the information it appears to approve the deductibility of purchasing your office chair however under "what you can't claim" is the following:
- expenses for office furniture and equipment where someone else supplies the item for your use.
My interpretation of this is that if your employer provides you with an office chair then any office chair you purchase would not be tax deductible.
