One of the directors of my UK-based company has recently moved (back) to Australia as a permanent resident.

Our company is a research-based company that is not revenue making, and is not trading in Australia. This director is our only Australian employee.

Am I correct in my assumptions that:

  • Our company will not be required to register for an ABN
  • We will have to register for a Withholding Payer Number, and withhold tax from their pay
  • We will have to pay 11% of their gross pay into a superannuation fund
  • We will have to report using STP compliant software.
  • We will have no other obligations than the above.

If not, please may you advise?

The director is being paid a relatively token amount, and so the costs to implement this are likely to be disproportionately high. Are there concessions for small companies?

Thanks.

No to all questions, as payment is being made from UK.

Director will report as foreign income on AUS tax return.
