My 16 year old foster child has paid tax through his casual job but I am having trouble getting an original birth certificate for him to apply for a tax file number. What happens to the tax he has paid if he doesn't have a tax file number by 30th June?

Hello,

He will continue to be taxed at the highest rate of 47%, however, once a TFN has been issued to him the income and tax will be allocated to the TFN and you will be able to lodge a tax return to claim the relevant amounts.

Thanks :)
