I have been claiming a tax deduction on my after tax super contributions and therefore I understand that I am not eligible for the Government co-contribution super payment up to $500. Where is the tax benefit of NOT claiming a tax deduction on any of my after tax super contributions just so I can qualify for the Government co-contribution super payment up to $500?

Hello, @Mish63
By not claiming a tax deduction on your after-tax super contributions, you can qualify for the Government co-contribution super payment of up to $500. The benefit is that, depending on your income level, this co-contribution can effectively increase your super savings more than the tax deduction would. For low to middle-income earners, the government's co-contribution is a direct boost to your super balance without reducing your taxable income, potentially offering a greater overall financial benefit compared to the immediate tax savings from claiming a deduction.
