Hi

I recently started a Pilates business back in Nov 2023 with a non GST registered ABN. Since then, I have looked into supplementing my Pilates income with some Uber driving. Uber's requirements are that a sole trader's ABN must be GST registered. My Pilates business does not include GST. I know that I can not have two different ABN's as a sole trader. If I don't want to charge GST to my Pilates clients (and I know I won't hit the $75k mark for Pilates), how can I set up the two businesses so that one is registered for GST and the other is not?

Yes a "Family Trust", if for Pilates and under $75,000, as is your case then No GST registration required. However there are additional coasts involved with a Discretionary Trading Trust (Family Trust). Would be best to seek professional advice from a tax agent/accountant on your individual circumstances.

As a sole trader you can only have one ABN and GST registration. All income and expenses must be reported on your BAS.

The only way that the Pilates income would be if another entity, eg. a trust was set up for one of the activities.
