I am expecting a cash payment to be made to me when finalising the estate of a relative who is a UK resident.

My understanding is that this will be subject to a UK inheritance tax charge with the net amount being transferred to me.

Whilst I am aware that there is no inheritance tax applicable in Australia is it possible to recover the UK inheritance tax in my Australian tax return or via another means?

No - foreign tax credits can only be claimed for foreign income tax
