Q1 . If one without other income is receiving Centrelink full aged pension of $1020 per fortnight or $26,500 a year. it that amount tax free and need not to submit tax return?

Q2. What about a newly arrived retired migrant who cannot get any Centrelink Assistance but is getting almost the same amount of his overseas government retired pension? As he is also a retired person and not working, will ATO treats his income the same as those getting from Centrelink? Centrelink may gives additional relief. Are these all tax free?

Q3 If Centrelink allows one to work some small hours without penalising, are these these also tax free?

  1. Not tax free, but would be below taxable limit if no other income.
  2. No - foreign pension is taxable income, but there may be a deduction related to your personal contributions over time.
  3. No

Q1 What is the taxable limit if the single person is getting a full pension in Australia and has no other income?

Q2. The newly arrived PR did not make any personal contribution because the person was employed by HK government and when retired will be given a monthly pension. He is not under any fund or superannuation.

Q3. As the person is not under any private fund or superannuation, but from a government, would the taxation similar to a retiree here getting pension from Centrelink assuming no other income?

@Bruce4Tax

In item 2 is a question as dated 5 July, under normal circumstances, the amount of pension received depends on the contribution made to the fund. But in this case as no idea as the person works for the Government and opts for early retirement and gets a lower pension. If works for another 5 years, will get a full pension. It is a government employer pension and not social security pension
