As an employee of an organization which receives US Government Funding and carries on duty as refugee humanitarian evacuation in war zone. Can I have any war zone tax exemption on my wages from my employer? I usually work 7 months in overseas and 5 months in Australia.

I have a unit in Australia and stay there when I am in Australia. When I am not in Australia, I keeps all my personal items at the Unit. Thus, I think I am a resident for tax purpose. Am I correct? I would like to know whether I can apply for war zone tax exemption on my foreign employment income.

Hi @typchan,

Yes, you'll still be an Australia tax resident. From what you've said it would appear you fall into the Domicile test category. You have a unit in Australia that is your permanent place of residence and while you aren't here it contains all your stuff.

We do have the overseas forces tax offset that you may be eligible for. This is if you served in either the Australian defence force or a United Nations armed force. You'll also need to serve in one of the specified overseas locations.
