I am trying to cancel my GST registration online, as I won't be working and earning above the threshold this financial year (under my ABN) due to being pregnant and eventually bringing a child into the world.


Every time I try to go online via the mygov / ATO website and cancel GST registration it displays an error stating:


An error has occurred

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties. We apologise for any inconvenience. Try again later.

I have tried calling all available phone numbers for business / individual, only to be hung up on or can't proceed to the next step after providing my ABN or TFN.


Can I please receive urgent assistance with this matter? The 'Application to cancel registration form (NAT 2955)' is also not available online. I feel like I'm hitting roadblock after roadblock trying to do a simple task.


Any help would be appreciated.

You're definitely following all the right avenues to cancel it.

 

Sometimes these errors 'snag' and keep re-appearing. Have you tried using a different web browser, clearing the cache and cookies or using a different device? Some people find success from doing that.

 

I've just looked on our online ordering service and the cancellation form comes up if you type '2955' in the search bar. If you include 'NAT' in front of the number it shows every form that starts with NAT. So that's the trick to singling out what you're after if you ever need to use it again!

 

Alternatively, if you use a tax agent, they can arrange the cancellation for you through their online portal.

Hi RachATO,


Thanks for your reply. Your approach and advice is very thoughtful.


However, every separate browser and every separate device I use to try cancel GST registration via MyGov, is presenting the same error.


The form is for postal order only. I'm so confused why this isn't available online like most of the others?


I think my last resort is to hire an accountant to organize this for me, as I need this organized asap. But I have to say, this is a real let down for anyone trying to run a business, when there isn't instant access nor support to be able to achieve things effectively and independently (also while we are encouraged and prompted to use self-manage options online too.)
