Hi,

We currently have a client who employs two school-based trainees (both under 18). The client has confirmed with Fair Work that there will be no annual leave or sick leave for these employees. The hourly rate is $10.11, as calculated by Fair Work based on the information provided by our client. Please see the attached link for further details.

When selecting the 'employment basis' in Xero, I noticed that there are only three options: full-time, part-time, and casual. However, for our client, the two new employees should be classified as trainees, as indicated on their payslips. Since the hourly rate of $10.11 was calculated separately based on our client's description and does not correspond to the usual award rates, how should we handle this situation? Please advice on the payroll setting

Thank you

Hiya @123456qaz 👋

The ATO cannot assist you with how to use your payroll product. You should contact your payroll product provider to understand their business processes and settings for their product.

Hi Deanne,

Thanks for your reply.

I checked with Xero support, and they advised me to consult the ATO regarding the 'Employee Basis'. I'm not entirely clear on whether school-based trainees should be classified as 'casual'. If there are any guidance on this?

Thank you
