Hello dear ATO community,

I help out a charity that has DGR status. Most of the gifts are received via direct bank transfers. When the charity prepares the gift receipts, does the donor name that the charity includes on the receipt need to be the same as the name from the bank account that appears on the bank transaction list?

Many thanks

Hi @spanna,

That's where it gets a bit tricky. Technically they should be putting your name on the receipt as it's come from you. However, in the transfer you could say the donation is on behalf of person B. There shouldn't be an issue with putting person B's name on the receipt.

Hello @spanna

Sure

Businesses, organisations and companies all can have many names associated.

It's the ABN that's important.

As long as the ABN associated with the charity org does indeed say it's DGR accepted, then it will match up that way.

If you haven't already, you can double check on the ABN lookup page
