Hello, would you be able to confirm if a bond paid for room hire should be BAS exempt or GST free? I understand that the bond becomes subject to GST if it is forfeited, but wanted to confirm what the original bond payment tax coding should be.

We need more info to be able to provide you with accurate answer.


Are you talking about Residential accommodation or Commercial accommodation? The treatment may be different.


Generally, It'll be GST free unless the bond is forfeited. See Tailored technical assistance for more info.


Regarding question 2. We're unable to advise the tax code to be used. You should speak to your software provider as this may differ depending on the program is used.
