Hello, Sole trader, non-primary production. I work as a consultant to various organisations. I'm confused about what expenses go under "business expenses" (in business expenses and losses section) and what go under deductions.

  1. Does it matter?
  2. Can some expenses go under either? Or is it strictly delineated?
  3. Are deductions mainly for PAYG related income?

Any other advice appreciated, thanks.

Yes, 'Deductions' are for PAYGW related, dividend and other types of income listed in the front part of the tax return.

If you are a sole trader, your sole trader related deductions should be placed in the business expenses and losses section; together with your business income.
