I am looking at moving to AU and want to bring my car. I will have owned it for 4 years when I ship it, do I have to pay GST in AU. I have already paid GST in NZ. Also I need to get it valued for LCT can I get it valued in NZ and then convert the NZ$ to AU? is that valuation excluding GST. Thank you
Hi @Pholly,
For any goods imported into Australia, the GST is worked out by the Department of Home Affairs. Best to chat with them on this.
Yes, you can have it valued in NZ and then convert to Australian dollars using the foreign exchange rates. No, the valuation would need to include GST. Check the info in our Working out the LCT on an import.
