Is the Payment Reference Number on an Accounts Summary a derivative of the TFN or ABN for an individual or corporate entity? Wanting to confirm whether there is a risk of disclosing confidential information if this document is stored electronically.

That's very mindful of you :)

 

Yes, a client identifier (such as a TFN or ABN) is embedded within the PRN, with the first and last few numbers telling us which account the PRN is linked to. 


Storing this info electronically does have it's risks with the increased number of data breaches recently. So, it might be better to check if there are safer storage options available?
