I am quite puzzled by the ATO tax assessment statement. In the Balance column, there are CR and DR abbreviations. Please correct me if I were wrong. To my superficial understanding, they mean CR (Credit) and DR (Debit) respectively. CR means certain proceeds will be credited into my bank account and DR means I am going to pay to ATO a certain specified amount. I received the 2023/24 statement lately stating that, instead of a DR, I received a CR against the amount to be paid, I reckon. So I am now a sitting duck. Don't know what action I should take to handle this situation. Could anyone be able to give me a helping hand? Much appreciated.

Hi @edelweiss.bien,

On your Notice of Assessment (NOA), above where it says, 'Refer to Statement of Account' (SOA), it should tell you what the 'Outcome of this notice' is. It'll either be a CR (credit) amount, a DR (debit) amount or 0.00 (zero).

If it's a CR amount, it'll appear as a CR transaction on the SOA. Assuming that it results in a refund, you'll see a DR refund transaction and a 0.00 closing balance.

If it's a DR amount, it'll appear as a DR transaction on the SOA. Assuming that it results in a payment being required, you'll have a DR closing balance with payment instructions.

If it's neither, that suggests that the 'Outcome of this notice' is 0.00 which generally means that you won't have to pay and that you won't get a refund.

Hope this helps🤩
