I have registered a not-for-profit community organisation as an incorporated association with Consumer Affairs Victoria. However the next step of getting an ABN is proving impossible.

When attempting to apply for an ABN I get stuck at the 'Business Information' page. After a great deal of research it seemed that I would have to apply for an ARBN, however we do not meet all of the criteria. We are a small community group and have no intention of working anywhere outside our local area so an ARBN seems a bit over the top anyway.

How can I register for an ABN and TFN?

Howdy @RenMc,

When applying for an ABN, you need to identify your organisation’s entity type. For a not-for-profit incorporated association, you should select "Other Incorporated Entity".

If you encounter issues, ensure all details match your registration with Consumer Affairs Victoria. Double-check the legal name, address, and other details.

You can apply for a TFN at the same time as your ABN application. When you reach the section asking if you need a TFN, select "Yes".

If you already have an ABN and need to apply for a TFN separately, you can do so online through the ABR.
