Good morning all.

I have been abroad for almost 14 years. The ATO does not recognize my TFN and I am trying to lodge a tax return. My tax agent has advised me that it may of been suppressed. I have had no luck contacting [removed by moderator].

Any guidance would be appreciated. I also cant link my Gov to ATO as my tfn is not recognised.

Hey @MalcolmMBrown,

Have you lodged tax returns over the last few years, or is this your first one in a while?

And are you lodging online or through the tax agent?

There're a number of reasons why your TFN might not be working. For example, maybe a wrong digit is being entered, or your TFN might've been locked for safety while you're living outside of Australia.

We can't access personal tax accounts from here to see what's up, so the best bet is to try and call us directly on the overseas enquiry line which is open from 8am-6pm Mon-Fri.

Calling from overseas can be tricky with time differences. Mondays are quite busy, so earlier in the morning on a different day will help avoid some of the wait times.
