Hi,


I'm an NDIS Support Coordinator assisting a 16-year-old participant with an intellectual disability who is currently hospitalized. The participant's mother is in the process of applying for the Disability Support Pension (DSP) on their behalf. However, the participant does not have a Tax File Number (TFN), passport, and cannot attend AusPost or Services NSW. Are there any exemptions or alternatives available for obtaining a TFN to enable access to the DSP?

Howdy @jcrzr,


There is a way where Services Australia can assist in obtaining a TFN for individuals who can't apply in the usual way. The participants mother can complete the TFN application and submit to Services Australia. They will then forward this to us.


In certain circumstances, exemptions from providing a TFN can be granted. This can apply if it is unduly difficult or distressing for the individual to obtain a TFN.


Probably best to have the mother of your client contact Services Australia.

No there aren't any exemptions, but there are different ways to apply for a TFN.

If the participant has an Australian passport, then they can apply using myGOVID.


Have a look here at TFN applications on how this works.


You've mentioned they can't get to AusPost. The only other way for them to get a TFN would be the paper form which would mean going to AusPost. Is it possible someone can take them there.
