Dear ATO,

I am writing to inquire about my tax obligations for the current financial year. I am currently seeking for job and am unemployed and have migrated to Australia as a permanent resident (visa subclass 189) since November 2023. Given my current employment status, I would like to know if I am required to lodge a tax return and declare any income. During this financial year, my income has been limited to the savings that I have brought along myself and I don't have any investment as well as receive any government benefits or allowances during their unemployment period. However, I would appreciate your guidance on whether I need to file a tax return or any other tax-related documents.

Your assistance in clarifying my tax obligations during this time would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Hi Kral

If you work out that you don't need to lodge a tax return, tell us by lodging a non-lodgment advice (also known as a return not necessary).

Go to ATO website and type "QC63269" into the search bar. you will have more information on telling you how to lodge a non lodgment advice.
