Before June 1, I paid off my HECS debt. I only had a couple of grand to go. My tax has already been completed however I haven’t seemed to be paid out the extra I put into my hecs (plus the amount from my job that went into hecs for the last year).

how do I receive this money back?

Hi @Amkb,

Has your tax return finished processing?

If it has and you can see a HECs/ HELP credit (CR) when you log into ATO online, you might need to call us if the excess hasn't refunded automatically.

But your notice of assessment should give you a break-down of your tax assessment, including how much credit or liability applies for the period. It's possible the the extra amounts may have been put towards a tax liability and reduced the tax credit you may've originally had.

thanks. I have tried calling ATO a couple of times now but it automatically disconnects me.

My tax statement doesn’t show anything about the extra amount being put towards any tax liabilities. Is there another way I can get in contact with someone? :)
