I am currently buying parts for a computer which I plan to claim a tax deduction on at the end of this financial year. I am planning to buy a few parts soon and was wondering if I could still claim this deduction if I used a $100 gift card to aid in this purchase. Would I just claim the amount of money that I spent without the gift card?

That would be the correct way to claim. You would have to depreciate the item if it cost this much. If each item is needed to build the computer then it is regarded as part of a set of items. See below

You can only claim a deduction if you incurred an expense. See link

If the gift card was given to you then there was no expense.
Only claim the portion of the expense you incurred.
So if the total cost of the items was $1000 and I used a $100 gift card, I would claim the $900 that I paid?
