Howdy @HannahTrewella,
Enter your foreign income under the “Foreign source income” section of your tax return.
The tax you paid to the UK government should be entered in the “Foreign tax paid” field. This is typically found at Item 20, Part H, Label O.
If there was any tax withheld from your foreign income. You would also report this in the “Tax withheld” section.
By correctly entering these details, you can claim a Foreign Income Tax Offset (FITO) to avoid double taxation on your UK income.
Hi Matt,
Thank you for your response.
I looked into getting assistance from an online accounting place to submit this for me, they reference my tax would go in the tax withheld section. The reason i get confused is if i put the tax i paid to the UK government in the Tax Withheld section, then i get prompted to include a tax offset. If i put the tax i paid in the foreign tax paid section i do not get the foreign tax offset.
Are you able to provide any clarification on the difference here?
