My company has paid me 88c per km however I know you claim deductions so that ATO doesn't tax my mileage. However, I've travelled 13,000km for work and have proof via my payments the company has given me. The ATO website doesn't allow me to deduct more than 5,000 km. How should I write this deduction? Any guidance/ help would be appreciated.
The ATO won't let you use the cents per km rate for more than 5,000 km so you'll need to use the logbook method to claim a deduction @sophia12 . Your log book will need to show all travel in at least a four-week period so you can calculate the work-related proportion. And you'll separately declare the $11,400 (88c for 13,000 km) as income of course.

Thank you! So do I need to declare my mileage allowance as income? And then declare the car expense deduction?
Exactly, @sophia12 .
