Hello,


I recently sought the services of a tax agent to lodge multiple overdue tax returns (between the years of 2005-2009). My appointment was in early August this year; I contacted my tax agent in the first week of September to get an update and he has advised that due to the returns being so old, it will be difficult to try and lodge them. Can you please advise how long it generally takes to lodge and complete old tax returns via the ATO? They were fairly simple to fill out - no debt, mortgage etc. - just various hospitality jobs.

So are you saying that they haven't been lodged?

If that is the case then you need to discuss this with your tax agent.

August is a very busy time for most tax agents with appointments for individuals to prepare and lodge their 2024 tax return . Your job would probably take a good deal of time to gather information then prepare the returns. It is likely not going to be a priority for them to complete.
