I joined my current company on April 2023 with my previous 408 visa which granted me full working rights. After some months being working with them, this company offered to sponsor me on a 482 Visa. Given that I accepted the sponsor, and it was the same employer that I've been working with, can I claim the medical examination cost I incurred for this visa application? AUD$400++

ATO website states: "You can claim a deduction for compulsory assessments and medical examinations your employer requires you to take in your current employment."

I understand this is not a pre-employment condition given that at the moment of the medical assessment I already was employed for this company and my contract was valid until later stages that the current visa I had at that time expired.

Hi @_karinabc

To claim visa fees, it has to be directly related to work.

This includes medical costs etc.

If the purpose of the visa is for you to continue employment, then it's not deductable.

Visa fees are considered private in nature.
