So basically I am doing my master in AU (2 years) which means I am considered as AU resident for tax purpose. Therefore the first 18,200 I earned should be tax free right? And anything after that should be taxed 19% as stated by ATO. However, I was tax 30% while earning 25.30. This is my first income and I got the payslip and it cut 30% for tax I was confused and ask around and my friend only get taxed 25% while earning a little bit more. Is my employer taxing me correctly or they miscalculate or is there some sort of rule I don't know about?

I saw some site saying that for non-resident they get taxed 32.5% from the first dollar they earned.

For context: I am working 19h/week and I've been here for 3months.

I am sorry for coming off too hot but I am just confused.

Provide your employer with a withholding declaration so you can be taxed correctly.

Withholding declaration | Australian Taxation Office (ato.gov.au)

As an International student here for more than 6 months you are considered an Australian resident for tax purposes and eligible for the tax-free threshold. On the form indicate you are an Australian resident for tax purposes. If you wish to claim the tax-free threshold then do that and less tax will be withheld.
