Last year I undertook international fieldwork for a research project as part of my employment. I was travelling alongside a colleague. The agreement with my employer was that while my colleague's expenses would be covered, I would self-fund the trip. My employer paid for flights, accommodation, and internal travel (e.g. trains) and, at the end of the fieldwork, I paid my employer a lump sum to reimburse the costs incurred by me. I have an itemised spreadsheet of the expenses.

Am I able to claim these expenses (flights, accommodation, trains)? I did no personal travel and the research has been published in a public report.

Hi @nick.parkinson,

Yep, there shouldn't be an issue claiming a deduction.

If you've incurred the expense yourself, it was work related and you have proof then your good to go.
