I want to ask a question regarding my salary sacrifice package for living expenses and my HECS debt. I am currently receiving a salary sacrifice package for living expenses and a meal entertainment package. I was told by my HR representative when I started my job that I needed to be careful with HECS and the reduced amount of tax I pay due to the salary sacrifice. They told me that I would end up with a Tax bill. I was wondering if I paid my post-tax dollars that are equal to or greater than the amount of HECS that I would pay I would avoid a tax bill at the end of the next financial year? Or would it be wise to ask my employer to withhold the amount of money to put towards HECS repayment?

voluntary contributions to your HEC's unfortantely does not change the repayable amount once you lodge your tax return based on where your income and the % in the Study and training loan repayment thresholds and rates it'd probably be best to ask them to withhold additional tax
