Trying to complete my tax return online, however, the ATO will not recognise my bank details as 'The BSB doesn't appear to belong to a bank in Australia'.

There's a couple of things you can try.
Firstly, check that you're entering your BSB correctly, no spaces. Check with the bank to confirm that you are entering the correct number.
Try updating your financial details in your myGov before beginning your tax return.
