Hi,

I am a registered BAS Agent and submit activity statements for my employer's clients taking advantage of the extended due dates for BAS Agents for quarterly returns.

I am also employed by another company with authorisation to lodge activity statements on their behalf. As an employee, I do not need to be a registered BAS Agent to do so.

My question is relating to the due date for a quarterly activity statement when both an employee and a registered BAS agent.

From the ATO website, the July to September BAS is due 28th October which would apply if I was just an employee,

If lodging online, there is an extra 2 weeks to lodge and pay the quarterly BAS, again as an employee.

As an employee who is also a registered BAS Agent, can I take advantage of the extra time to lodge and pay e.g. July to September due 25th November? I do not have my own practice or liability insurance as I am covered by my employer that is a practice or it is not needed as I am an employee.

When I log in to OSfA, I have 2 options, through the practice employer or as myself as a registered BAS Agent. Can I ask my employer to grant access through client to agent linking?

Hi @GBAccounts

Ok. Let's break this down.

Yes. You can ask your employer to nominate you as a registered BAS, if you're completing work for them as the registered BAS agent, or if they're asking your other employer to be their tax agent. It's very much a hard no if they are not.

If you're providing BAS services under your registered BAS agent number for any type of fee or reward, you'll need to be registered through the Tax practitioner's board.

Which also means you'll need to meet the fit and proper requirements and have professional indemnity insurance.
