I am travelling for a 2 day course domestically (work related self-education). This is not a mandatory course, but is directly linked to my work.

With regards specifically to flights, accomodation and meals, is it filed under

  1. Work-related Travel or
  2. Work-related Self Education, General (excl. car expenses)

Thank you

Hey @chanjyj,

Just need a bit more info to clarify a few things.

Is the course you're undertaking a training course that's connected to your work? If yes, then you'll be able to claim this under work-related travel expenses.

Check out what you can claim for attending seminars, conferences or training courses on our website.

Yes, it is a training course related to work. Self funded and not paid for by employer.

I know what I am entitled to claim, just unsure of what category it is when lodging tax return.

Eg when travelling for a conference/course (education) should travel expenses (flights, hotels, meals) be filed under 1. work-related travel expenses or 2. work-related self education?

Logically meals and flights are in themselves travel expenses, however they were incurred in the course of self education.

Thanks for your response!
