Hi there,

I am on a working holiday visa but have been living in Australia consistently for more than 6 months so I am seen as a resident for tax purposes.

When I go on my ATO profile, my working holiday visa status says NO on my personal details on my ATO. Is this because I am seen as a resident for tax purposes so I am in the same tax bracket as residents, despite my working holiday visa?

I have not submitted my tax return yet but my employer knows that I am on a WHV so I am wondering why the status in my ATO says NO.

Many thanks

Hi @Donal96,

This status should update when you lodge your tax return. Either you tell us, or the Department of Home Affairs does.

If your employer knows that you're working holiday maker (WHM), then they'll be taxing you that way.

If you're an Australian resident for tax purposes and from an NDA country, you may be eligible not be taxed as WHM.

Check the info about Working holiday makers. Specifically, under the heading 'Australian resident WHM from NDA country' to see if you're eligible.
