I am writing to enquire about the eligibility of a salary sacrifice claim by an employee who purchases a work related item using gift cards (unknown if the gift cards are purchased by the employee or given to them as a gift) and if this is eligible?

Typically, employees purchase the work related item, this gets reimbursed by the employer and the pre-tax wages of the employee are adjusted in the next payrun

Hi @anjali_r

We look at if it's an effective salary sacrifice arrangement. The link explains more about what this is. You can provide any type of benefit to them.

Does your company have a policy around reimbursing employees them for work items they purchased or how they should pay for the items? Whether they pay by cash or gift card sounds like your internal policies would cover this.
