I was working as an independent contractor to an Australian company before migrating to Australia. I was using the statement by supplier to work without the ABN during that period.

But after I migrated to Australia this July, I continued working for the same company for 3 more months without an ABN. This was a honest mistake and I need to rectify this situation.

What steps do I need to take to sort this out?

I earned total of around $7800 during this period. After this period, I switched to a PAYG tax job using my TFN.

Hey there @johnmathews1,

Don't fret, we see these things happen alot more often than you think.

When you apply for an ABN, you have the option to backdate this.

If your ABN is registered as a sole trader, and you've backdated this before the 1 July 2023, you'll need to complete a tax return. If you're going to backdate your ABN for a date after 1 July 2023, you can lodge your tax return in the next financial year.
