I work fulltime in a real estate and my employer is happy for me to do some cleaning. How do I work out what I can earn and tax etc? I need the second income as I am single and with rent increases and living costs I will not survive without the extra income.

Hi @Cazza72

Are you going to be doing the cleaning as an employee of your Real Estate office? or as a Sole Trader/Contractor?

If you're going to have a secondary role as a cleaner under your current employment, you'll have to discuss your wage/hourly rate with your boss. Then your cleaning wage should be included in your current pay cycle. But that discussion has to be held with your employer.

But, if you're operating as a sole trader, like a contracted cleaner for your office. You'll have to apply for an ABN and report your income in your tax return. Just make sure you're keeping money aside when you get paid, so come tax time you'll be ready to pay it!
