Hi @Bec492

We're processing recredits for the 2023 and 2024 index rate changes. Most people will see these credits on their account by end of January or sooner. Some credits will take a bit longer than others depending on how complex they are. But, you don't need to do anything in this process.

Refunds are processed seperately and we're working to get them out as quickly as possible. Once we've processed your refund, it will appear on your Income Tax account as a debit. From there it will be sent to your bank account - but when it arrives depends on your banks processing times.

Check out the changes to the HECS-HELP indexation and what it means for you for more info!

This doesn’t really answer the question—it just states that most people will see credits on their account by the end of January. Those of us who can already see the credit on our account and have a nil balance on our study loans are asking when we will receive the refund. Are you saying we will have to wait until the end of January for our refunds?

The lack of specific information on this is quite frustrating. There are people who need that refund money, especially at this time of year and when cost of living has never been higher.

Interesting. The ATO tried to send me my HECS refund on Jan 8th. I had old bank account details so it failed. I updated bank details on Jan 9th and am still yet to receive my refund. I have had multiple calls with ATO about this and am told each time I just have to wait and no one can tell me when it will actually be processed.

Maybe the ATO needs to look at Medicare code. When the same thing happens with them the payment is automatically re-triggered.
