Hi everyone,

I need a bit of advice here please. I'm aware that if I going to remove the whole trees even the roots, the cost associated will be recorded as "capital expenses" as there will be no future maintenance required. But what if the act of removing because those trees can interrupt electric wires and cause serious safety hazards in the future and had been recommended by a local council to be removed? Just FYI - the cost estimated to be approx. $15k (3 big trees).

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hey @van-adelaide

Im struggling to see what your question is. Removing the trees can cause safety hazards in the future, but the council recommended them to be removed?

I don't think it'll make a difference to how you claim it. But if you're unsure I'd definitely confirm this with a tax agent before claiming anything!

Hi Freeze,

I was saying - The local council has recommended that we remove three large trees completely due to safety concerns, meaning no further maintenance will be required. I just want to confirm that the costs associated (15k ) with this removal should still be classified as 'capital expenses' under investment property?
