I just registered for a tax file number online and received the number straight away. I made one error on the application. When I was asked whether I was an Australian resident for tax purposes, I checked the box no instead of yes.

Do I need to contact someone to arrange for this to be amended? When I tried to re-apply for my TFN online, I could not do this. Grateful for your confirmation on how best to remedy this.

Thank you!

Hi @GraceN,

Whoops. ๐Ÿ˜€

When you start working, if you tick that you're a resident for tax purposes in your TFN declaration with your employer, this should update your status as per the newer document.

Tax residency isn't forever and can always be updated by TFN declarations or when lodging your tax return and selecting you are a resident for tax. ๐Ÿ‘Œ
