Hi, I am on the excess officer list in an ACT Gov Agency. I have unique skills which suit many Commonwealth agencies, but for these jobs you require a minimum of NV1-NV2 clearance. My currently employer is unable to obtain the clearance. I have been offered multiple opportunities to transfer across on Section 26 however I must first have the clearance and the agencies will not pay for it, as they want immediate starters, and they are contract roles. These jobs are not coming up as permanent roles.

Can I claim the $5,085.00 for the NV2 vetting when it leads directly to obtaining a role?

Thanks Kwiz

Appears to be an expense incurred before the earning of assessable income. Or, if you like, a qualification required in order to gain employment.

The expense therefore is not deductible off current or future income.

Well that sucks as I can't afford it, therefore I will probably end up on income support, rather than getting a paid role.
