I was employed as a childcare educator in Melbourne VIC until February 2024, during which time I was on a temporary visa with working rights, and received superannuation payments into my account with Child Care Super. I departed Australia permanently in February 2024.

In October 2024, I lodged an "Application for payment of ATO-held superannuation money" (form NAT 74880-02.2019) via post, to the ATO's postal address at Albury, NSW 2640 (PO Box 3578). I lodged this form, instead of NAT 7204, based on the information here, which states that "your super fund will transfer your super money to the ATO as unclaimed super money, if both: (i) it has been 6 months or more since you left Australia, and (ii) your visa has ceased to be in effect."

However, I have not received any response from the ATO, nor has my superannuation money been deposited into my nominated Australian bank account. I have since returned to Australia for a short period on a Subclass 600 Visitor Visa. I applied for this visa in November 2024, and it was granted on 31/12/2024, for a period of 12 months (until 31/12/2025).

I would like to know the following:

  • Is it likely that my DASP application is currently being processed? If not, what may be the reason for it not being action, and what steps can I take to follow-up on this with the ATO?
  • What steps can I take to receive the DASP as soon as possible?

Thank you!

Hi @thusitha.r,

You say you applied for the DASP in Oct and then applied for a new visa in November.

The eligibility criteria states, you must not hold a current and active visa.

Even though it was over 6 months since you left, you might have been better off asking your old fund first, to see if they had actually transferred the money to the ATO.

That aside, paper applications have a much longer processing service standard, and you would have, more than likely, been approved your new visa (regardless of the visitor only status) before it was processed.

They may have checked, seen you were an active visa holder and decided you weren't eligible.

Best to contact the super enquiries line directly, now that you're here again anyway, and find out. 👍
