Hi all, I'm new to the Australian tax system and would just like some clarification. I was an international student in Australia and had one source of income from working part time at a grocery store. The only work-related expense I can think of would be traveling to and from work in buses. Would that count as a deduction? If so, what should I upload into the system to prove or substantiate it? Additionally, do I have to claim that as a deduction, or can I just leave it be, since I did not spend that much on transport after the fares went down to 50 cents so it wouldn't matter a lot if I don't get that refunded. Appreciate your help!

You can't claim trips between your home and place of work unless you were travelling between stores between shifts.

Oh I see thanks for the info! I did have a company branded uniform, how would I go about proving that I did laundry for it? I stayed in a student accomm which had their own online laundry system.

Same question as above, do I HAVE to claim deductions? Or can I file my tax return without them?

If your laundry expenses (washing, drying and ironing but not dry-cleaning expenses) are $150 or less, you can claim the amount you incur on laundry without providing written evidence of your laundry expenses. This is the case even if your total claim for work-related expenses is more than $300 including your laundry expenses.

You don't have to claim deductions, its not mandatory you can lodge your tax return without them.
