Recently, I have received an email from the ATO stating, "Hello, The activity statement for ....... due on 28 February 2025 is now available for you to lodge and pay. What you need to do You need to lodge activity statements by the due date, even if you aren't able to pay them." I had to pay additional income tax of $3952.35 for the FY 2023-24. I arranged to pay through three instalments and the final instalment paid on 25 November 2024 and the closing balance is now zero. Therefore, there is no payment due. I am not sure why the ATO is again asking me to lodge and pay by 28 February. Appreciate it if anyone from the ATO Community could explain me what is this activity statement and why I am asked to pay again. Thanking you in advance.
The email from the ATO regarding the activity statement is likely referring to the regular requirement for businesses, individuals with specific tax obligations, or those required to lodge quarterly or monthly activity statements (such as for GST or PAYG withholding) to submit their statement, regardless of whether they have any outstanding balance.
Even though you've paid the additional income tax for the 2023-24 financial year, the activity statement mentioned could be for a different purpose, such as your quarterly or monthly GST, PAYG, or other tax obligations. The ATO requires you to lodge and submit these statements on time to maintain accurate tax records, even if there's no payment due.
It’s important to check whether this activity statement relates to any ongoing obligations, such as GST reporting or any instalments for the current financial year (2024-25). You can log into your ATO account to view the details of the activity statement and confirm if there's any action required from your side.
If you're certain that you have no additional liabilities or obligations for the current period, it may just be a standard reminder, but you should still lodge the statement by the due date to avoid penalties. If you're unsure, contacting the ATO directly for clarification would be a good step to ensure everything is in order.

Thanks a lot Matt for your prompt response which is much appreciated.
Hi Matt,
Following your response, I have accessed ATO online homepage link for checking my activity statement and to find out what to do next. I am a retired person. I do not have any BAS to submit. The subject of the email that I received via MyGov from the ATO is "Activity statement 001, PAYG instalment notice Oct 2024 to December 2024, Due date 28 Feb 2025. After opening the email I see there is hyperlink for ATO online homepage. When I click the hyperlink it takes me to a page "For Action". In this "For action" page box, it is clearly saying "payments are up to date". There is a hyperlink "Prepare" in this "For Action" page box. When I click "prepare" it takes me to the page where it says again "Activity statement 001, my name, period Oct 2024 - December 2024 and a document ID number. Below this information there is an option selected "Accept and pay" then an amount is showing "PAYG instalment amount T7 $1091.00. Below the amount, it states "Based on the notional tax $3924.70 from the 2024 assessment", below that it is stated Amount owing to ATO $1091.00. I just paid additional taxes in 2024 assessment, even I don't know why I had to pay additional taxes which I never did before. All payments are up to date. Then why I have received this notification of my activity statement saying amount owing to ATO $1091.00. If I continue with lodgment, this means I have to pay $1091 as income tax and I don't know why. As I have mentioned above, it is a too much of a financial burden for me as I am a retired person. I do not have any business for which I need to submit BAS. I have tried to call the ATO but there is very long waiting time hence couldn't talk to to anybody at the ATO in this regard. I am completely stressed out. Appreciate it if you could please help me by clarifying what is going on actually. Thank you.
